Why Black College Bound?

  • Guidance counselors spend an average of 38 minutes per student, per year on college counseling according to “Counseling and College Counseling in America’s High Schools.”
  • Over 50 percent of African American high school students will be the first in their immediate families to attend college. In 2008, 27 percent of college freshman from across the nation were "first generation" enrollees.
  • 70% of college planning is done on the Internet
  • Over 60% of students in urban and rural school districts do not have daily access to computers and the Internet in the home and most only spend up to 3 hours a week on the Internet at school.
  • You are college material. If you're committed to maintaining good grades in the most challenging high school courses that you have available and working hard on acing the SAT or ACT, then there is no reason why you won't be a great candidate for getting in to college.
